Becoming a New Patient

Becoming a New Patient

Thank you for your interest in becoming a new patient! We know that choosing a dentist for you and your family can be an important decision in life. Below you will find general information about becoming a new patient at our office, what to expect at your first visit, our office policies, and links to the paperwork required in order to become a new patient.

Please note that the information below is intended for patients intending to be seen on a regular basis for check-ups and hygiene visits. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please either contact us through our online form or call the office at 705-897-6453 so that we can help to resolve your dental emergency sooner.

What To Expect At Your First Visit

Your first visit with us will be your comprehensive oral examination. During this visit, you will be greeted at our office and you will proceed to one of our dental operatories with one of our Registered Dental Hygienists.

The dental hygienist will:

  • Review your medical and dental history
  • Note any concerns you have about your oral health and teeth
  • Perform a head and neck exam
  • Take any radiographs (X-Rays) prescribed by the dentist
  • Screen for oral cancer
  • Measure you gums

Following this, you will meet Dr. McNicholl and he will perform an oral examination and based on all of the information collected at your visit, recommend any necessary dental treatment. Our team will ensure that you understand what treatment is being recommended and work with you to ensure that your timeline and finances are respected to put together a treatment plan. Please note that the initial visit takes approximately an hour and a half. As every individual varies with respect to their overall oral health, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to complete your initial hygiene treatment (cleaning) at this initial visit, but we will schedule you back as soon as it is convenient for you to complete any necessary treatment!

New Patient Intake Form and Authorization for Release

Prior to your initial visit with us, we ask that you please take the time to fill out a New Patient Intake form. Please complete and submit one form for each family member that is becoming a new patient of our practice. If you are unable to complete these forms for any reason, please call our office at 705-897-6453 for assistance.

New Patient Intake Form

If you have any records from a previous dentist that you would like to have released to us, please ensure that you complete the Authorization for Release of Records form. You only need to submit this once and can list all family members on this form. We will submit this to your previous dentist. Please note that it can take several weeks for some offices to release your records to us.
